DAY 1:We Left Wilberforce at 5:23 pm Friday December 11, 2009 in a blizzard.Well I guess the blizzard was mostly over but there was sure a lot of snow, about 2 1/2 feet, maybe more. As we were approaching Kinmount, there was a truck stuck on the hill coming up. We were able to back up and take the shortcut. It was a little hair raising as a car was heading towards us on a very narrow road. Just after Kinmount thre was a car upside down in the ditch.The roads improved somewhat, mostly drifting snow now.We stopped in Fenelon Falls at the Cow & Sow for supper.Stopped for gas in Pickering at Canadian Tire. Took $125.00 then shut off. No, I don't want a car wash. Rob put air in the trailer tires. It's very cold, minus 7.4C. Brrr!!. Rob said it was colder at home.
We stopped at the Duty Free in Detroit and bought 24 cans of Canadian, 24 Bud Light with Lime, 12 XXX and a 40 oz of 135 proof rum for $76.00. We arrived at customs at 3:48 am and departed at 3:53. The custom guy came on board and asked about tobacco and booze but didn't ask at all about food. We get to enjoy our Canadian beef after all.We pulled over at the rest area just south of Bowling Green in Ohio at 5:30 am. We both promptly fell asleep and woke up at 8:40 am. DAY 2: On the road by 9:45 am.Stopped in Beaver Dam at the Flying J for breakfast.Temperature is 3.9C.We stopped at a rest area in Kentucky just before I-71 & I-75 join then at a Flying J near Walton in the hopes of hooking up our water but it was shut off. We had supper at a Chinese Buffet in Mumfordville about 6:15 and the bill was $18.00. Bed time was early, we were both asleep by 7:30. DAY 3: We were up and on the road by 3:15 am.in the pouring rain. At least the temperature was warmer about 6C so it wasn't freezing rain.Stopped at Flying J in Fairview and had breakfast, topped up our propane and fuel and filled our fresh water tank. Carried on to Texarkana in Arkansas to the Flying J for supper and fuel. We crossed the State Line into Texas at 5:24 pm Sunday, December 13, 2009.We stopped at a Wal-Mart in Marshall for the night.Again we were in bed by 8:00 pm. DAY 4. On the road by 3:55 am. It sure was great to have a shower! It's been drizzling all morning. We stopped at the Rest Area around Seven Oaks where they have free internet. SKYPE did not work well. I made egg sandwiches for breakfast..our 1st homecooked meal this trip.Entered Houston at 9 :10 am and went by 1st exit to Sgarland at 9:9 am. Roads were wet but traffic was fairly light. We did our usual 1st stop at Dairy Queen , then Wal-Mart for supplies and the car wash. We did 6 cycles at$1.25 each plus 2 quarters. Off to the Sandolar..arrived at 2:45.
We travelled a total of 1894 miles with a gas cost of about $730.00.
